PERCEPTION
This project selected by scopio éditions for the second issue of its collection " contrast : a fotografia no ensino superior " is an academic work about the university spaces.
It first integrates the FACT studio (Fotografia como instrumento de pesquisa e apoio a comunicação e representação da Arquitetura, Cidade e Território) of the master's degree at the School of Architecture of Porto and the workshop's approach which was in 2020-21 to look at the university spaces of Porto (one university per group).
The temporality of university spaces is the subject that came out of our first visit to the Faculty of Sports when we entered it through a door left open one weekend...
The uses of the university are concentrated in a defined space and time : within its walls and five days of the week, monday to friday.
What happens to these places in the evening, on weekends, holidays or even as we have seen more recently during a period of lockdown due to a pandemic situation ?
What happens to the buildings when they are not being used by their principal users or emptied of their functions?
Does architecture become an object only ?
What is the atmosphere in these empty places, outside of university hours ?
in these spaces, for a time abandoned, we realised that the gaze on time not only concerns the plan & planning of a university building, but also the movement of the observer.
